United in Earthquake Relief, Warmth Together This Winter

At 11:59 p.m. on December 18, a magnitude-6.2 earthquake struck Jishishan in Gansu Province, severely affecting both Gansu and Qinghai. To date, more than 100 people have died and nearly 1,000 have been injured, with extensive damage to housing, water supply, electricity, roads, and other critical infrastructure. Though the disaster is merciless, human compassion endures. Following the quake, the CPC Nantong Municipal Committee and the Nantong Municipal Government attached great importance to the situation and promptly mobilized emergency rescue operations and relief donations. Spontaneous contributions of funds and supplies have also poured in from across Nantong and from all sectors of society, and a batch of winter-protection supplies has already been dispatched at full speed to the earthquake-hit areas.
It is the depths of winter, and the earthquake-affected area in Haidong, Qinghai Province, lies at a high altitude, where the weather is bitterly cold. The Jiangsu Provincial Forward Command for Aid to Qinghai has reported that the disaster zone is in urgent need of temporary prefabricated housing to provide warmth. Upon learning of this, the Group Company and its sister construction firms responded swiftly and promptly launched a voluntary donation drive.
On the afternoon of December 22, the Nantong Municipal Government and the Municipal Housing and Urban–Rural Development Bureau held a ceremony to mark the donation of prefabricated housing units by Nantong construction firms to the earthquake-affected areas in Qinghai. The Group Company, together with five other leading Nantong construction enterprises—Nantong Fourth Construction Group Co., Ltd., Tongzhou Construction General Group Co., Ltd., Longxin Construction Group Co., Ltd., and Qidong Construction Group Co., Ltd.—each donated 20 sets of model housing units, totaling 100 sets valued at RMB 1 million, to help build temporary shelters for the local disaster victims. General Manager Zhang Zhongda attended the donation ceremony.
It is a time-honored virtue of the Chinese nation to offer support from all quarters when one region is in distress and to alleviate poverty and hardship. It is the inescapable responsibility of Nantong Construction Engineering Group to share the difficulties faced by the people in the disaster-stricken areas, help our fellow countrymen who have suffered from the disaster tide over their hardships, and assist the Party and the government in earthquake relief and rescue efforts. We are confident that, under the strong leadership of the Party Central Committee and the State Council and with the vigorous support of Nantong and the people across the country, the affected communities will unite as one, overcome this calamity, and achieve victory in earthquake relief and rescue!
