Chairman Zhang Xiangyang Meets with Indian Guests

On the afternoon of May 19, Zhang Xiangyang, Chairman of the Group, met with Mr. S. Lakshmi Narahari and Mr. Y. V. Srinivasa Rao, representatives of Nava India’s 2×150 MW coal-fired power plant project in Zambia, in the Headquarters Conference Hall. Chen Guoli, Deputy General Manager of the Group and General Manager of its Overseas Branch, along with Ma Yunhai, Project Manager for the Indonesia Project, accompanied the meeting.

Chairman Zhang Xiangyang began by extending a warm welcome to the two Indian guests. He provided an overview of the company’s basic profile and its overseas market strategy, noting that the company is among the earliest Chinese construction firms to go global and has maintained a deep foothold in the African market for more than three decades. Through years of relentless expansion and development, the company has been consistently ranked among ENR’s Top 250 International Contractors and China’s Top 80 Contractors. It boasts extensive experience in plant construction, equipment installation, and interior and exterior fit-out, having undertaken numerous industrial plant projects—particularly power-generation facilities—financed by well-known international corporations. As a result, the company enjoys a strong reputation and a solid brand reputation within the industry. He further pointed out that Nantong Construction Engineering has established subsidiaries in Zambia’s neighboring countries, including Zimbabwe and Mozambique, where it has operated for an extended period, accumulating abundant human, financial, and material resources as well as robust project-management expertise. Consequently, the company enjoys inherent comparative advantages when implementing projects in Zambia.

Mr. S. Lakshmi Narahari provided an overview of Nava Corporation of India, which was founded in 1972 and is headquartered in the state of Telangana. Initially established as a ferrosilicon smelter, the company has since grown from a small-scale smelting operation into a diversified, global enterprise with operations spanning India, Africa, and Southeast Asia. A prime example of its current portfolio is the 2 × 150 MW coal-fired power plant project currently under investment in Zambia, with a total investment of RMB 500 million. The Zambian government holds a 30% equity stake in the project, which is designated as a key government initiative to improve public welfare and address the pressing issue of electricity shortages in the region. Given the extremely tight construction schedule, the project requires a contractor with extensive on-site experience in Zambia or neighboring countries; accordingly, Nava Corporation approached Nantong Construction Engineering for collaboration and exchange.

Chairman Zhang Xiangyang then provided a comprehensive overview of the implementation of the thermal power plant project, covering everything from national support policies to specific construction organization. The host and guest sides engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on project cooperation, with both parties expressing their commitment to further integrate resources, leverage complementary strengths, and achieve win-win collaboration. Following the meeting, the host and guest took a group photo to commemorate the occasion.
