At around 9:30 a.m. on July 23, an astonishing scene unfolded on the street outside the headquarters of Nantong Construction Group at No. 136 Duanjiaba Road in the city center: a huge black bird suddenly plummeted from the sky and landed on the windshield of a slowly moving car. As Company Security Officer Chen Haibing, who was on duty at the time, stood there in stunned disbelief, he suddenly noticed another passing driver quickly jump out of his vehicle, intent on picking up the injured bird. Mr. Chen immediately dashed outside to intervene, scooping the large black bird into the company compound and placing it among some grass, hoping it would rest for a while and then fly away on its own. However, the bird remained curled up in a corner, completely motionless.
Upon observation, the large black bird was found to have entirely black plumage except for a white tail; its bill was bright red. Mr. Chen suspected it might be a black swan and promptly called the 12345 government hotline. Shortly thereafter, representatives from the municipal agriculture and forestry department, accompanied by journalists, arrived at the scene by car and transported the injured bird to the Nantong Wildlife Rescue Center for examination and rehabilitation. Following identification by relevant experts, the bird was confirmed to be a black swan. Based on the fact that wild black swans are native to Australia and are migratory birds, it is believed that the black swan spotted in downtown Nantong likely escaped from a domestic breeding farm.
According to reports, the relevant authorities will monitor the black swan for a period of time and release it back into the wild once it has developed the ability to survive independently.
