Since July 2021, a third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has been raging in Mozambique, with cases reported among students at several primary and secondary schools, leading some institutions to suspend in-person classes. Upon learning of the situation, the Mozambique branch promptly contacted the Mozambican Ministry of Education, expressing its willingness to contribute modestly by donating anti-pandemic supplies to help the ministry strengthen its response efforts, enable students whose classes had been suspended to return to school as soon as possible, and facilitate their continued learning. The two parties quickly reached a consensus on the types, quantities, and timing of the donated supplies.
In his address, H.E. Wang Hejun, Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique, pointed out that the Chinese government has consistently encouraged Chinese enterprises to actively fulfill their social responsibilities, leverage their respective business operations to promote local economic and social development, deepen cooperation with Mozambique, and become reliable partners that deliver mutual benefits and win-win outcomes. He expressed the hope that more Chinese-invested enterprises will, like Nantong Construction Engineering, establish deep roots in Mozambique and contribute to the country’s economic development.
On behalf of all students and staff of Mozambique’s education sector, Minister Namasulua expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and Nantong Construction Engineering for their prompt response to urgent needs, their willingness to address the most challenging circumstances, and their unconditional support in helping the education sector combat the pandemic and overcome its difficulties. He expressed confidence that, with the concerted efforts of all, Mozambique will soon emerge from the shadow of the epidemic and schools will resume classes at the earliest possible date.
In his address, Yang Jianming, General Manager of the Mozambique Branch, stated that Nantong Construction has been operating in Mozambique for more than a decade and has collaborated with the Ministry of Education to implement numerous school projects. He expressed sincere gratitude for the support and recognition received from all levels of the Mozambican Ministry of Education. While the virus is merciless, human kindness endures; he is confident that, under the strong leadership and effective organization of the Ministry of Education and with the joint participation of Chinese enterprises in Mozambique, we will surely overcome the virus at an early date, enabling school teachers and students to resume normal teaching activities with peace of mind as soon as possible.
