Diligent study and bold innovation

Wang Jinfeng joined the company in 2006 after graduating from the Civil Engineering program at Yangzhou University, and has now been with the firm for 16 years. Over this time, he has held a series of positions, including construction technician, headquarters section officer, project technical manager, project production manager, project manager, deputy general manager of a branch office, and chief engineer, steadily advancing from a construction technician to a managerial role in the branch’s operations and management. Although his roles have continually evolved, one thing has remained constant: his deep passion for the company’s engineering management business and Persistence

He is extremely demanding of himself—indeed, almost rigorously so—and even under a full-load workload he has never neglected the pursuit of professional knowledge. As a result, he has not only obtained the Grade-I Construction Engineer Certificate and been recognized as a Senior Engineer, but several technical and quality-related papers he has authored have also received high praise and been published in prestigious journals. Among these, “Construction Technology for Erection of Large-Span Heavy Steel Structural Masts” won the Outstanding Paper Award at the 19th East China Construction Academic Exchange Conference and was subsequently published in the journal “Building Construction”; while “Application of Virtual Simulation Technology in Construction Engineering” and “Construction Technology for Rigid Columns in Large Deep Excavations” each earned first prize at the Jiangsu Provincial Construction Academic Exchange Conference.

16 Years of steady accumulation have also established him as a leading figure in the industry. He has successively been recommended as a recipient of Jiangsu Province’s “333” High-Level Talent Cultivation Program and Nantong City’s “226” High-Level Talent Cultivation Program, and was recognized as an Outstanding Individual in Construction Technology within Jiangsu Province’s construction industry. On the eve of this year’s May Day, as a representative of model craftsmen and labor heroes, he was awarded the Nantong City May Day Labor Medal by the Nantong Municipal Federation of Trade Unions.

Scientific Management for Enhanced Efficiency and Increased Revenue

Since joining the workforce, Wang Jinfeng has consistently worked on the front lines of construction and production. Leveraging his extensive project-management experience, he has led his team in overcoming a wide range of challenges in project management, thereby generating significant economic and social benefits for the group company.

He places great emphasis on the application of new technologies and innovative management approaches in project execution, regularly organizing technical management personnel to study cutting-edge construction technologies and best practices. In June 2009, Wang Jinfeng was appointed as the Technical Manager for the New District Science and Business Center Project at the Wuxi Branch. In addition to preparing various specialized construction plans and providing technical guidance to new staff, he frequently and proactively organizes technical seminars for young managers and leads them in conducting multiple QC activities grounded in the project’s actual operations. The project feasibility study has significantly enhanced construction quality and efficiency, shortened the construction schedule, and generated substantial economic benefits for the project.

In his work, he places great emphasis on full-process project management and has vigorously promoted a management philosophy characterized by standardization, proceduralization, refinement, and uniformity, with a particular focus on building a robust project management team. In 2015, Wang Jinfeng served as the project manager for Xinrui Hospital in the Wuxi New District. Recognizing the critical role of materials management in overall project cost control, he steadfastly established a comprehensive project materials management system, rigorously requiring that all procurement activities be conducted in strict accordance with this system. He clearly defined reward and punishment mechanisms, implemented transparent procurement practices, and ensured that all materials procurement within the project office remained under tight control. In response to significant and frequent price fluctuations in key materials such as steel, cement, sand, and gravel, he closely monitored market dynamics and promptly adjusted prices with suppliers based on real-time market information, thereby achieving substantial cost savings for the project. He has always maintained that no penny should be spent unnecessarily, that every expenditure must meet stringent quality and quantity standards, that ultimate value for money must be pursued, and that excellence and efficiency can and should go hand in hand.

2019 In [year], Wang Jinfeng served as the project manager for the Jiahao Nantong Cold-Chain Logistics Center. Although the project was well-planned in its early stages and progressed smoothly, the outbreak of COVID-19 in early 2020 posed significant challenges. To ensure timely contract performance, once the epidemic was brought under preliminary effective control, he led the project management team in intensive preparations for resuming work. Under extremely difficult conditions, he proactively coordinated the mobilization of personnel and materials to the site, thereby guaranteeing on-time completion and full contractual compliance. The project was completed in June 2021. The project was successfully completed and handed over on schedule, with its progress, quality, and safety and site management receiving high praise from the client. In 2021, the client entered into renewed cooperation agreements with Nantong Construction Group for two major projects—one in Wuxi and the other in Shanghai—thereby creating favorable conditions for the branch company’s steady growth. He often says: “The construction site is the market; only by delivering outstanding projects can we tap into larger markets and generate greater benefits for the company.”

Craftsmanship in Creation, Boldly Winning the Luban Award

With a background as a technician, Wang Jinfeng has held fast to the conviction—“Strive for excellence in every project”—ever since he first set foot on a construction site. For every project under his responsibility, he insists that it be built to “Provincial Excellence” or “National Excellence” standards. He believes that the goal of pursuing excellence is not merely to win ultimate recognition; the very process of striving for excellence is itself the greatest honor, because the relentless pursuit of excellence brings peace of mind and benefits the public. It is precisely due to his high standards and rigorous requirements that numerous projects he has overseen have successively achieved outstanding results in quality improvement. Projects such as the Wuxi New District Science and Business Center, the Phase II Server Room Building of the Wuxi Telecom International Data Center, the Financial Services Zone Project in the Wuxi Taike Park, the Commercial and Office Space Project on Plot XDG-2011-33, the Development Project on Plot XDG-2010-42, and the Supporting Factory Building Construction Project for Bosch’s New Facility have all been awarded the “Yangzi Cup,” a provincial-level award for superior engineering.

2021 At the end of the year, the Xinrui Hospital project in Wuxi New District was awarded the Luban Prize, China’s highest honor for construction engineering quality. As early as the first project meeting for the Xinrui Hospital project in September 2015, Wang Jinfeng set the construction goal of “lean construction, bold innovation, and striving for the Luban Prize,” thereby establishing high standards and a high-level positioning for the project’s execution. He took the lead in organizing the project management team to develop detailed target plans for all aspects of the project and to establish comprehensive management systems for each project subsystem, laying a solid foundation for vying for the Luban Prize.

In the face of the project’s key and challenging aspects, he took the lead in organizing the technical, production, and quality departments to jointly develop specialized construction plans and measures for preventing common quality defects. Throughout the construction process, the project team successfully overcame a series of critical and difficult issues, including ultra-large, deep excavation works; large-span, high-formwork support systems; extra-thick concrete pours; large-scale roofing projects; as well as the numerous, highly stringent cleanroom areas in the hospital, coupled with complex façade designs and significant construction challenges.

He firmly believes that “technological innovation is the primary driving force behind corporate development and project performance,” and thus, throughout the project construction process, he and his team have jointly explored new approaches to engineering management. He has actively established technical testing and QC (quality control) task-force teams, engaged in in-depth discussions and research with technical personnel, and strengthened efforts to overcome technical challenges. During the construction of the Xinrui Hospital project, a total of nine out of the Ministry of Housing and Urban–Rural Development’s ten new construction technologies were successfully promoted and applied. The project comprises 21 major categories and 10 sub-categories, with five major categories and 13 sub-categories falling under Jiangsu Province’s “Ten New Technologies” initiative, thereby earning the project the designation of a Jiangsu Provincial Demonstration Project for the Application of New Technologies.

To ensure the quality of project construction, he instituted a work system featuring “joint review and approval, specialized concealed works inspection, and comprehensive acceptance,” requiring the project team to maintain end-to-end tracking and on-site supervision, rigorously control and verify quality throughout the construction process, and implement total quality management. He mandated that all physical quality inspections be conducted on every single item, and that measures such as “protection, covering, enclosure, and patrolling” be adopted to effectively safeguard finished works. He consistently emphasized to the management team that technical briefings must never be mere formalities; for critical processes and key milestones, he personally inspected the site to ensure thorough understanding and control.

In response to this honor, Wang Jinfeng stated: “Winning the Luban Award is both a testament to and a recognition of our company’s quality and strength, as well as the driving force behind our relentless pursuit of higher standards, stricter requirements, and superior performance. Moving forward, we will continue to uphold the fine traditions of Nantong Construction Engineering, diligently carry out all our tasks, rigorously control quality to create exceptional projects, pass on the time-honored Luban craftsmanship, and showcase the outstanding spirit of Nantong’s elite construction team.”
