On the morning of November 2, 2025, Tiananmen Square in Beijing was awash with a sea of people. At the sound of the starting gun piercing the sky, 30,000 runners surged forward from the starting line like a tidal wave. Zhou Jianxin, an employee of a Beijing-based company, wore a race jersey emblazoned with the words “Nantong Construction Engineering,” and with steady, confident strides joined the rushing throng. In the end, he crossed the finish line in 3 hours, 9 minutes, and 56 seconds, placing among the top ranks out of 30,000 participants. Through his indomitable spirit of perseverance and relentless effort, he wrote a new chapter of struggle for builders in the new era along Chang’an Avenue.

At this grand event that brought together numerous professional athletes and running enthusiasts, Zhou Jian may not be among the fastest, but his unique background and unwavering dedication have made him a standout figure on the racecourse. As an ordinary employee at the Beijing branch, he approaches his daily work with diligence and commitment—and he has carried that same passion and perseverance into the marathon arena.
Zhou Jian’s Beijing Marathon journey is more than just a sporting competition—it is a spiritual cleansing and a testament to self-transcendence. During the preparation period, he would change into his running shoes and hit the nearby track every day after work, rain or shine, through bitter cold and scorching heat, without fail. In the golden glow of the setting sun, his silhouette stretched long as he raced against time and battled with himself. Whenever fatigue set in or the urge to give up arose, he would recall the sense of responsibility and mission that comes with being a construction worker—his deep passion for his job and his hopeful vision for the future became the driving force that kept him going. On race day, Zhou Jian stood out in the crowd, clad in a specially made race uniform. The garment emblazoned with his company’s logo was not only a symbol of his identity but also a reflection of his inner convictions. On the course, he ran side by side with other runners; though he may not have been the fastest, his stride was steady and powerful, and his eyes radiated an indomitable spirit. Each time he encountered difficulties or challenges, he remembered the hardships and sacrifices of his training, and it was precisely this perseverance and grit that enabled him to push past his limits again and again—until, at last, he crossed the finish line. Through his actions, Zhou Jian has embodied what it means to embrace challenges and strive to surpass oneself, to persevere relentlessly and pursue excellence.
Zhou Jian’s outstanding performance on the Beijing Marathon course quickly sparked a strong response throughout the company. Colleagues alike expressed admiration for his perseverance and achievements, with many inspired to take up running themselves and infuse this spirit of tenacity into their daily work. Company leaders also commended Zhou Jian highly, noting that he has exemplified the spirit of a construction professional through his actions and injected fresh vitality into the organization’s cultural development. In post-race conversations, Zhou Jian modestly stated that he had simply done what any ordinary construction worker should do. He likened the marathon to life: along the way, there will be fatigue and moments when one feels like giving up, but as long as one keeps one’s goals firmly in mind and maintains unwavering determination, one can surely persevere to the end. He encouraged everyone to embody this marathon spirit in both work and life—never backing down easily in the face of challenges, daring to push beyond one’s limits, and striving with greater passion and unshakable conviction to continually surpass boundaries. With the concerted efforts of all construction professionals, he is confident that we can achieve even better results on the track of our times.
